Galvanised steel is the default curtain material for Centurion roller shutter doors, and the reasons here are practical. Dock doors on the N1 corridor take impact and constant use, the workshop doors through Hennopspark and Zwartkop take hard handling, and the premises on the low ground near the Hennops take water. Galvanising handles all of it without drama.
How a galvanised roller shutter door is built
- Hot-dip galvanised slats in a gauge chosen for the span and the duty.
- Galvanised guides and bottom rail, because the coating has to cover the whole assembly to mean anything.
- Barrel and shaft sized on deflection across the actual opening.
- Manual or motorised drive matched to door mass and cycle count.
Galvanised roller shutter doors for Centurion industry
Loading bays through Route 21, Samrand, Kosmosdal and Louwlardia, and workshop bays across Hennopspark and Zwartkop, run galvanised doors because they are repairable, replaceable and honest about what they are. A damaged slat is swapped out; a scratched coating is not a crisis.
Corrosion resistance on flood-prone ground
Galvanising protects sacrificially, which means a scratch does not become a rust bloom the way it does on paint over bare steel. On premises near the river that have had water through them, that behaviour is the difference between a door that is cleaned out and a door that is written off. We also specify a heavier bottom rail on those openings, because that is where the water sits.
Galvanised or powder-coated
Galvanised alone is right where the door is a working door and appearance does not sell anything. Powder coating over galvanising is right on a frontage, an office park unit or a residential opening, and it costs more because it is two processes rather than one. We quote both when the choice is genuinely open.
Gauge and span
Slat gauge is chosen for the span, the exposure and the cycle count. A wide opening in a light gauge bows and tracks badly; a narrow opening in a heavy gauge wastes money and loads the drive. We calculate rather than default.
Security and locking
Galvanised curtains take standard end locks, reinforced bottom rails and deep guides, which is where the security actually lives. Motorised doors get a locking drive position so the curtain cannot be pushed up.
Maintenance and expected life
Serviced annually, twice a year on busy yards and quarterly on high-cycle dock doors, a galvanised door on a Centurion site runs for a long time. The failures we see are guides packed with debris and bearings that were never lubricated, not curtains that gave up.
