- Fail-safe gravity descent, no power needed
- Fire panel integration and drop testing
A fire-rated roller shutter door is a certified assembly, not simply a heavy door. It exists to hold a compartment line for a stated period, and it only does that if the curtain, the guides, the barrel, the fixings and the release mechanism are all part of the tested specification. Centurion sites with rated openings need the certificate as much as the door.
Fire-rated roller shutter doors we supply in Centurion
- Rated curtain assemblies supplied to their tested specification with documentation.
- Certified guides and fixings, because the rating covers the assembly rather than the curtain alone.
- Controlled descent so the door closes at a safe rate instead of dropping.
- Fusible link or detector release, interfaced to the fire panel where the design requires it.
- Insulated variants where the specification calls for integrity and insulation.
Where fire shutters are needed on Centurion sites
Distribution and corporate warehousing through Route 21, Samrand, Kosmosdal and Louwlardia where compartment lines cross openings and stored goods make the fire load high. Service corridors and back-of-house openings at Centurion Mall, Forest Hill City and Mall at Reds. Plant, generator and server rooms in the Highveld office and technology parks. Basement parking in the larger residential complexes.
Ratings and what they mean
A rating is a period of integrity under test conditions, commonly sixty or one hundred and twenty minutes, and it is a property of the tested assembly. Fitting a rated curtain into non-rated guides, or anchoring it into an unsuitable substrate, voids the rating regardless of what the curtain is made of.
Substrate on dolomitic ground
A certified door has to be anchored into rated construction, and where the ground has moved the wall around an opening may be cracked or may not be what the drawing says it is. We check what is actually there before quoting, because a certified door fixed into unsuitable substrate is a certificate with nothing behind it.
Installation of fire shutters
Fixings go into the rated construction to the tested detail, gaps at head and jambs are sealed with the correct materials, and release and descent are tested and recorded at handover. The documentation is handed over with the door rather than promised later.
Fire shutter inspection and testing
Rated doors need testing at least every six months. The release must operate, the curtain must descend fully into its guides, and nothing must obstruct the drop. We test, record and issue a report you can hand to an inspector or an insurer.
Common faults we find on fire shutters
Pallets and stock stored under the door, which is the commonest fault on a busy warehouse floor. Release mechanisms painted over. Descent brakes never exercised. Curtains that stop short of the floor because debris has collected in the guide.
What a fire-rated roller shutter door costs in Centurion
More than a standard door, because the rating is in the whole assembly and in the certification. We quote the door, the release interface and the commissioning separately so the cost of compliance is visible.
